microSD Cards for the CHIGEE AIO-6: Which to Buy and How to Fix Format Errors
For a CHIGEE AIO-6 running cameras, pick a microSD card of up to 256 GB marked U3 and V30. Cards of 512 GB and 1 TB are not supported. Format the card in the device before your first ride. Below you'll also find fixes for the most common errors, a recording time table and how to get footage off the card.
- Capacity: the AIO-6 supports cards up to 256 GB. Larger cards shouldn't be used.
- Speed: when recording from cameras, look for both U3 and V30, meaning at least 30 MB/s of sustained writing.
- Card condition: buy genuine cards from reputable brands. A worn-out or counterfeit card may not hold its rated speed.
- Formatting: always format a new card in the AIO-6 before first use.
Which microSD card fits the CHIGEE AIO-6?
The requirements depend on whether you use the optional cameras. It comes down to two cases.
Running cameras? A microSD card up to 256 GB marked U3 and V30. That's all you need.
No cameras? You still need a card, because firmware updates won't run without one. Here 8 or 16 GB is plenty and the speed class matters far less. At those capacities the price gap between a throwaway card and a decent one is small, so there's no point saving on the thing your update depends on.
No card ships with the AIO-6, so you'll need to buy one separately. Our store carries models that match the device specification: Samsung microSD 256 GB U3 V30 and SanDisk microSD 256 GB U3 V30.
With cameras attached, the AIO-6 records continuously for the whole ride. That's why the minimum sustained write speed matters more than the peak figure printed on the box. The U3 and V30 markings are what tell you that number.
Look for these specs:
- microSD or TF up to 256 GB, since TF is an older name for the same card format,
- U3 and V30, meaning at least 30 MB/s of sustained writing,
- a card from a reputable brand such as Samsung, SanDisk or Kingston,
- a high-endurance version where available, since those are designed for frequent, continuous video recording,
- optionally an A2 rating, which covers random read and write performance but isn't required for recording.
Avoid:
- cards marked only U1 or V10, since they guarantee just 10 MB/s of sustained writing and can produce corrupted or incomplete recordings,
- cards without legible speed class markings,
- suspiciously cheap high-capacity cards and unbranded media.
On its own, Class 10 means at least 10 MB/s, but it also appears on perfectly good U3 and V30 cards. Don't reject a card over Class 10 alone. Check whether U3 and V30 sit next to it.
Correct markings don't guarantee that your specific card is healthy. A counterfeit, worn-out or damaged card may not hold its rated speed. That's why the AIO-6 checks the card's real read and write speed as soon as you insert it.
Does a 512 GB or 1 TB card work in the CHIGEE AIO-6?
No. The AIO-6 and other CHIGEE devices with a dashcam support cards up to 256 GB. A 512 GB or 1 TB card can be fast and perfectly healthy, but it exceeds what the device supports. Even if it is detected for a while, correct operation is neither supported nor guaranteed.
The limit comes from three things:
- System compatibility. The firmware and file system are optimized for cards up to 256 GB. Larger cards may not be recognized or may fail during formatting.
- Recording stability. Ultra-high-capacity cards are prone to speed drops when fragmented, which can interrupt continuous recording from the cameras.
- Reliability. In long-term recording tests, cards of 512 GB and above failed more often than cards within the supported range.
If the AIO-6 doesn't recognize a 512 GB card, that isn't a fault in the device or the card. Use a model of 256 GB or less.
How to insert and format a microSD card in the AIO-6
Format a new card in the AIO-6 before your first recording, even if your computer reads it fine. The device will set up the right file system and create the folders it needs for footage.
- Power the device off before inserting or removing the card.
- Insert the card into the slot contacts up, label down. The label is the printed side carrying the brand name. Push it in until it clicks.
- Power the AIO-6 on and go to Settings → Storage.
- Select the SD card using the circle to the right of its bar.
- Press Format. The button acts on whichever storage is currently selected.
Once the card is in, the AIO-6 automatically checks its real read and write speed. A green check mark and the detection-complete message mean the card passed and is ready to record.
How many hours of footage fit on a 32, 64, 128 or 256 GB card?
The AIO-6 can save camera footage in two modes. In Independent mode the front and rear cameras create separate files, which makes reviewing and editing easier but takes more space. In Fusion mode the two camera feeds are combined into a single file, which takes less space but means you can no longer view each camera separately.

The values are approximate and vary with what's happening in frame. Once the card fills up, the system overwrites the oldest files so recording continues automatically.
Loop recording overwrites older material over time. If the card holds a recording of a road incident, move it to your phone or computer at the first opportunity.
The AIO-6 says "storage full" with a card inserted
The AIO-6 has two kinds of storage: internal eMMC and the microSD card. With no card, camera footage goes to the internal memory. Once you insert a card, the device automatically switches new recordings to it.
If you rode without a card earlier, the eMMC may have filled up with footage. After you insert a card, new video is saved to it, but the internal storage indicator still shows space in use. That's normal behavior, because older files are taking up the room.
To free it up, go to Settings → Storage, select internal memory and press Format. Before you format, review what's stored and copy anything you want to keep. Check the selection carefully, because the button erases whichever storage is currently selected, and once a card is in, the card is often the one selected.
The AIO-6 can't see the card or can't format it
Messages like "needs to be formatted", "format failed", "no card inserted" or a warning about insufficient speed most often come from a card that is incompatible, badly seated or damaged. Work through the steps in order.
- Check the capacity and class. A recording card should be 256 GB or less and marked U3 and V30. Cards of 512 GB and above are not supported, regardless of brand and price.
- Reseat the card. Power the AIO-6 off, remove the card and push it back in contacts up until it clicks firmly. Then power the device on. Poor seating is a typical cause of format errors.
- Format the card in the AIO-6. Go to Settings → Storage, select the SD card and press Format.
- If formatting in the device keeps failing, use a computer. Download the free SD Memory Card Formatter from the SD Association. Run a Quick Format first, then an Overwrite Format if the problem persists. Put the card back in the AIO-6 and format it there again, because the final format should always be done by the device.
- Test the card on a computer. Copy a 2-4 GB file onto it and then copy it back. A copy error or a damaged file points to a problem with the card.
- Run a factory reset as the last step. Go to Settings → Reset, confirm, and then repeat the formatting with a known-good card of up to 256 GB marked U3 and V30.
Also check:
- that the write-protect switch on a microSD to SD adapter isn't set to Lock,
- that the card contacts and the device slot are clean and no pins are bent, using no metal tools to clean them,
- that the card has a single partition and a standard file system,
- that your computer reports the correct capacity for the card.
Your Mac can't see the microSD card from the CHIGEE AIO-6
Cards of 128 and 256 GB formatted in a CHIGEE device may not be recognized automatically by Macs running macOS Sonoma. The same cards usually work fine on Windows computers. This is a compatibility issue between how the card is formatted and how that version of macOS handles media, not evidence that the card or the AIO-6 is faulty. The AIO-6 formats the card as FAT32, which is exactly why the workaround below uses the msdos parameter.
The best solution, and the one we recommend: use a Windows computer to transfer your footage, or download the clips through the CHIGEE GO app.
Advanced workaround: mounting the card manually in the macOS Terminal
This is not an official CHIGEE procedure. The method was shared by a user, Paul Jones. The manufacturer didn't develop it and provides no technical support for it.
The commands below don't format the card, but they do require the correct disk number. A mistake can unmount another connected drive. Before you start, disconnect any external drives you don't need and double-check the capacity of the device you select. You follow these steps at your own risk, and CHIGEE Polska is not liable for lost data or damaged media.
Prepare:
- In Terminal, navigate to the folder where you want to mount the card.
- Create a folder with
sudo mkdir chigeesdcard. You can rename the folder. - Insert the card and click Ignore if macOS shows an error.
Mount:
- Run
diskutil list external physical. - Find the disk whose capacity matches the card and note its number, for example
/dev/disk4, along with the volume identifier, usually/dev/disk4s1. - Run
sudo mount -t msdos /dev/disk4s1 chigeesdcard, substituting your own volume number and folder name. The files should appear in the folder you created.
Unmount: run sudo diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk4 with your own disk number, then remove the card.
Remount: after reinserting the card, run diskutil list external physical again because the disk number may have changed, then mount it with the same command.
How to view and transfer footage from the CHIGEE AIO-6
You can watch recordings on the AIO-6 screen, download them to your phone through the CHIGEE GO app, or copy them from the card to a computer. Footage can't be downloaded remotely over the internet, because your phone has to connect directly to the display's Wi-Fi.
1. Downloading footage to your phone with CHIGEE GO
Connect your phone to the display's Wi-Fi, then browse and download the clips you want in the CHIGEE GO app. The signal reaches about 8-10 meters, so this works standing next to the bike. Downloaded files stay on your phone, ready to archive or share.
2. Playing recordings on the AIO-6 screen
You can browse footage directly on the display. It's the fastest way to check a specific moment while you're still at the bike.
3. Transferring footage to a computer
Power the device off, remove the card and connect it to your computer with a microSD reader or an SD adapter. This is the fastest way to copy many large files. Recordings are saved as MP4 and open in most media players. If playback gives you trouble, try the free PotPlayer.
Use the CHIGEE GO app or a card reader instead.

What is the maximum microSD capacity for the CHIGEE AIO-6?
The maximum supported capacity is 256 GB.
Will a 512 GB or 1 TB card work?
No. Cards above 256 GB are not supported and may not be recognized or may fail during formatting.
Which speed class should I choose?
For recording from cameras, pick a card marked U3 and V30, guaranteeing at least 30 MB/s of sustained writing. A2 is a bonus, not a requirement.
Is a Class 10 card suitable for the AIO-6?

The display says no card is inserted even though it's in the slot. What now?
Power the device off, remove the card and reinsert it contacts up until it clicks. If the message returns, check the card's specification and test another known-good card of up to 256 GB.
Why is internal storage full when I'm recording to the card?
The eMMC holds footage recorded earlier without a card. Copy off what you need, then format the internal memory. New recordings will keep going to the card.
I have an AIO-6 without cameras. What card do I need?
An 8 or 16 GB card is plenty. It's used for firmware updates, so the speed class matters far less here. Still, pick a card from a known brand, because a failed update is a worse problem than a lost recording.
